Srinagar 15 Nov(KNB): The Director General of Police (DGP), J&K, Nalin Prabhat, confirmed on Saturday that the fatal explosion at the Nowgam Police Station was an accidental blast, dismissing other speculations.
The DGP stated at a press conference in Srinagar that the explosion occurred while sensitive and unstable explosives, recently recovered from Faridabad, were being secured, sampled, and examined as part of an ongoing investigation.
The accidental blast resulted in nine deaths and left 27 others injured.
The deceased include:
- 1 SIA official
- 3 FSCL personnel (Forensic Science Laboratory)
- 2 Crime Photographers
- 2 Revenue officials
- 1 Tailor
The injured include both civilians and police personnel, many of whom are currently receiving treatment. The explosion also caused severe damage to the police station building and adjacent residential structures.
DGP Prabhat concluded by expressing the J&K Police’s full solidarity with the bereaved families and wished a swift recovery to the injured.(KNB)
