New Delhi, July 1(KNB): In a significant development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has granted consent for independent Member of Parliament (MP) Engineer Rashid to take oath on July 5, subject to certain conditions.
According to sources, the NIA has agreed to allow Rashid to take the oath, provided he does not interact with the media. The agency has also sought certain undertakings from Rashid’s counsel, which are likely to be formalized by the Patiala House Court on July 2.
Rashid, who was arrested by the NIA had moved the court seeking interim bail or custody parole to enable him to take the oath as an MP. His counsel had argued that Rashid’s presence in Parliament was essential to represent his constituents and participate in the democratic process.
The court is expected to pass an order on Rashid’s plea tomorrow, July 2.(KNB)
