Doda 23 January (KNB): District administration Doda, under the overall supervision of Deputy Commissioner, Dr Sagar D Doifode, today kick started the celebration of the National Girl Child Week under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign by organising an awareness rally in collaboration with ICDS and Health department.
A statement issued to Kashmir News Bureau said that Additional Deputy Commissioner, Doda, Kishori Lal Sharma, flagged off the awareness rally from Sports Stadium Doda. Around 500 students of different educational institutions, ASHA and Anganwadi workers participated in the rally, which went through main markets and culminated at Boys Higher Secondary School Doda.
The participants were carrying banners, placards, and chanted slogans to spread awareness about the safety of girl child.
Earlier, several speakers from schools, Mahila Shakti Kendra, One Stop Centre and ICDS spoke at length on the the provisions of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act(PC and PNDT Act), The Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act (MTP) etc. The students also staged a skit on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) theme.
On the occasion, the ADC highlighted the importance of safety and education of the Girl Child for developing a healthy society. He also discussed the issues/challenges they are facing and way forward for improvement of sex ratio and education status of girl child in the society.
Similar programmes were held at sub division and block levels across the district in which ASHA and Anganwadi workers, besides other concerned stakeholders participated.
The others present during the program are Project Officer, ICDS Shahida Parveen; DIO, Mohammad Ashraf Wani, District Social Welfare Officer, Zubair Ahmed Lone; Dy. SP DAR Shoket Ahmed, besides officials of MSK, OSC, Childline Doda, ICPS and CDPO Office Doda also attended the program. (KNB)
