Modi calls Imran Khan on Phone, no mention of Kashmir

New Delhi, Jul 31 (KNB): Days after the historical victory of Imran Khan in Pakistan general elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday late night congratulated former for emerging as the largest political party in National Assembly general elections. 
On Monday late night PM Narendra Modi spoke to Imran Khan on telephone and congratulate him for his winning, the external affairs ministry said this in a press note. However, there was no mention of Kashmir during the telephonic conversation. 
Adding to this Modi also focuses on vision of peace and development in the entire neighborhood which is in line with his governments stated objective of “neighborhood first policy” said MEA in a statement.
Pertinently, Imran Khan has announced that he would take oath as Prime Minister of Pakistan on Saturday, August 11, 2018 three days before country is celebrating its Independence Day.
During the phone call PM expressed hope that democracy will take deeper roots in Pakistan. In its first reaction on general elections in Pakistan, the MEA official spokesperson Raveesh Kumar on Saturday had  said that India desires a “prosperous and progressive Pakistan at peace with its neighbors”. 
Hope the new government in Islamabad will work constructively to build a safe, stable and secure South Asia “free of terror” and “violence”, Kumar added.
Earlier, after a gap of 4 days PTI chief Imran Khan reaches out to India, with a friendship hand and stressed upon the proposed counterpart leadership for resolution of Kashmir issue.
Pertinent to mention here, soon after the victory speech of Imran Khan wherein he offered friendship hand to India, several socio-political parties in Kashmir including erstwhile Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti led PDP, National Conference and Pro-freedom parties urged upon Government of India to respond the Imran’s offer positively. 
Kashmir is an important issue between the two neighbor countries. Any changes in government whether it is in India or in Pakistan, Kashmir always remains a hot topic on the table of issues. (KNB)
