MLA Sonwar meets Governor, seeks rehabilitation of stone quarry runners of Pantha Chowk and Athwajan

Srinagar 16 August (KNB):The ex-minster for Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) and MLA Sonwar met the Governor N.N. Vohra today at Raj Bhawan in Srinagar and apprised him of major issues of his constituency.

Mir sought rehabilitation of stone quarry runners of Athwajan and Pantha Chowk before the quarries are relocated. “Hundreds of families depend on these quarries for their living. They should be properly rehabilitated and granted an extension of time,” the MLA said to the Governor.

As a Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA)minister, before the crash of the coalition government, Mohammad Ashraf had in May convened a meeting to review the status of the relocation of the stone quarries of Athwajan and Pantha Chowk and directed the officials to hasten the process of relocation to the identified areas so that people earning from the stone quarries don’t suffer further.

According to reports, two sites in South Kashmir’s Shaliguf with 9.55 hectares and Zewan Bala with 16.40 hectares from the stand land have been identified for the rehabilitation of the affected.

The other issues that the MLA apprised the Governor about include the four-laning of Boulevard road on which, according to the MLA, the work has to be resumed; Tangnar water supply scheme and upgradation of 49 dewatering stations in Srinagar.
