MLA Shopian Seeks Compensation For Apple Growers

Srinagar 04 Nov (KNB): MLA shopian Adv. Mohd Yousuf Bhat has impressed upon the governor administration to access the losses caused to apple trees due to the heavy snow, which resulted in breaking down trees bearing unplucked apples, that were still on trees, while branches of trees broke down due to the weight of the snow.

The incessant snowfall has damaged most of the apple orchards here in shopian and has left orchardists of this apple district in distress. The unexpected snowfall was heavier than normal snowfall and the accumulated snow on tree branches broke down many of them, which made people of this apple district suffer huge losses , as people are mostly dependent on apple orchards, he added

While interacting with various delegations of fruit growers, MLA was informed that the orchardists community, have suffered extensive damage to their apple orchards and in such situation these victims look forward for the government support.

MLA urged upon the Governor administration to constitute a team of horticulture, agriculture and revenue department, who would visit the affected areas to access the losses caused to the fruits so that the quantum of relief and compensation could be worked out for the affected orchardists.

MLA further impressed upon the government to waive off the KCC loan of the apple growers who have always been suffering on account of weather vagaries, in order to mitigate sufferings of the fruit growers in Kashmir. ‘It becomes an obligation for the government to come to the support and succor of the orchardists as they form the backbone of the state’s economy’ , He added
