Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir yet again barred from Friday prayers

Srinagar, Jan 05 (KNB): The authorities in Kashmir yet again barred Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Molvi Umar Farooq from addressing the Friday congregation at the historic Jamia Masjid by placing him under house arrest at his Nigeen residence.

Expressing serious resentment over the continuous house detention of Mirwaiz, Hurriyat (M) spokesman said the ruling regime is suffering from myopic vision syndrome and is interfering in religious affairs and playing with the sentiments of Muslims.

In a statement to KNB, the spokesman said the ruling regime has already curtailed the social and political activities of Mirwaiz by caging him in his own house time and again and now it is barring him to fulfilling the obligations of a Mirwaiz, which includes to delivering of sermons on Fridays at the historic Jamia Masjid. The APHC spokesman termed the frequent caging of Mirwaiz and thereby disallowing him from carrying out religious duties as a direct interference into the religious affairs and termed the move as highly condemnable.

The spokesman said that it was ironical that just at the onset of Year, 2018, the government resorted to unfair means of barring Mirwaiz from addressing the religious gathering on the first Friday of the year, resulting the hurting of sentiments of thousands of Muslims who were waiting at the grand masjid.

Meanwhile, addressing the Friday gathering, Imam Hai, Syed Ahmed Naqshbandi condemned the government’s decision of barring the Mirwaiz from reaching Jamia and addressing the gathering at the spiritual centre of Kashmir, the Jamia Masjid. (KNB)
