Srinagar, January 02(KNB):The local meteorological department Tuesday predicted rains and snow across Jammu and Kashmir from Wednesday onwards, cautioning people that the season’s “first major wet spell” may disrupt transport on major highways in the state as well as the air traffic.
The Met department said the approaching weather system may lead to disruption of air travel and surface transportation on highways including the Srinagar-Jammu highway and Mughal Road.
Meanwhile, Traffic was suspended on Srinagar-Jammu highway on Wednesday morning following fresh snowfall around the Jawahar Tunnel.
As per the reports, the strategic highway that connects Kashmir valley with the rest of the world was closed for traffic today morning after fresh snowfall on both sides of the Jawahar Tunnel.
The road has become slippery due to accumulation of several inches of snow near the tunnel.
According to the official, the traffic will be allowed only after improvement in the weather.(KNB)
