Srinagar 03 January (KNB): Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu along with SMC officers, visited several areas in the uptown and the old city to take up on-the-spot inspection of the snow clearance drive.
According to the statement, Mayor passed a directions to clear the snow from religious places including Hazratbal, Khanyar, Naqshband Sahib, and Makhdoom Sahib ChatiPadshai and other Gurudwaras, Mosques, Imambaras and Shrines. He also reviewed snow clearance from vital roads, link roads, hospitals, places of worship, city centre and major markets.
Besides snow clearance Mattu also reviewed the city drainage preparation to deal with water-logging in low lying areas and trouble spots. He instructed workers to be on high alert to check waterlogging and redress them in a time-bound manner.
The department was on a task of clearing snow on all important stretches running through the city and connecting important destinations, focusing on the roads leading to hospitals, religious places and the government offices.
“3000 sanitation workers were being utilised for clearance of snow from lanes, bylanes, pavements, hospitals, ration ghats, electric water supply stations, religious places, Government departments and other vital places on priority,” the statement stated.
In addition to the manpower, all the machinery including loaders, hoppers and other snow clearance machines were on the job.
However, the dewatering was continuously being carried out in the city with fully functional 85 permanent dewatering stations. Furthermore, the services of 32 mobile pumps were deputed in volatile areas. (KNB)
