LT GEN RANBIR SINGH NORTHERN COMMAND ADDRESSES INSPIRE INTERNS AT SMVDU; URGES THEM TO FOLLOW THEIR DREAM

July 13: Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, Army Commander, Northern Command addressed young interns attending the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) Science Internship Camp at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra today. While delivering his address to the 322 young interns from all the districts of Jammu Division, he said that he was honored to be at the University and congratulated the interns for their intellectual capacity and inquisitiveness which has resulted in them being invited to the event. He congratulated the Department of Science and Technology and the University for mentoring the youth of the state in a big way through this programme.

Army Commander underscored the importance of such initiatives in ensuring that India attains self-sufficiency in developing future technologies on its own and its role in feeding the Make in India programme. He cited the example, that nations which harness the S&T are destined to become great powers which is essential for peace.
He introduced the interns to the role of S&T in Army and said that Army as an institution has vast opportunities to pursue various fields of Science and Technology. He said that Army over the years has acquired and developed cutting edge technologies in the area of communication, IT, space technology etc and the same was undergoing constant development through in-house R&D. The Army Commander said that there will always be scope and need of people who have perused R&D in Science and Technology both in Army and civilian domains. He urged the interns to peruse Science and Technology and acquire skill set necessary for the development of future technologies. At the end the Army Commander also took on some questions from students, wished them the very best and exhorted them to exploit their intellectual capacities for nation building.

Earlier Dr. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, SMVD University welcomed the Army Commander in the University and expressed his gratefulness to him for visiting the University and mentoring the young interns of the Camp. While speaking on the occasion he said that in a short span of time SMVD University has made a mark at National level through its state of the art infrastructure, highly qualified faculty and motivated students. He also thanked the Department of Science and Technology for their continuing support to the INSPIRE Camps.
