Srinagar 27 February (KNB): The Meteorological Department, Srinagar, on Saturday morning in its latest update, said that the light rain in the plains and snow over higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir is going to be witnessed on February 27.
The MeT official said that “Intermittent light to moderate rain in plains and snow over higher reaches of J&K most likely to continue today.”
He further added that there will be a significant decrease in rain /snow likely from tomorrow onwards. Hilly areas may receive snowfall upto half to 1ft.
While talking to the Kashmir News Bureau, MeT Director Sonam Lotus said, “we are expecting improvement in weather from tomorrow till next throughout the next week.”
He further said that snowfall is currently being witnessed in Sonamarg, Gagangeer, Zojila, Drass, Kargil and other places.
However, as per the Kashmir News Bureau reports, north Kashmir’s Bandipora is currently receiving light snowfall. Whereas the reports from other districts are still awaited.
The Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar has been witnessing erratic rainfall from early morning, which gained some vigour around the late morning of Saturday, keeping in line with the MeT’s already prediction of precipitation to be witnessed.
Pertinently, the temperature across different areas of Kashmir was recorded on Friday night as — Srinagar 4.7 degree C, Kupwara 0.7 degree C, Kokernag 0.1 degree C, Qazigund 2.2 degree C, Gulmarg -2.2 degree C, and Pahalgam 0.3 degree C. (KNB)
