Kupwara, Sep 10 (KNB): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha emphasized the contrast between the destructive impact of terrorism and the unifying power of tourism.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Bungus Tourism and Adventure festival in Kupwara’s Bungus Valley, he highlighted the need for peace as a foundation for development and tourism.
The festival, witnessed the presence of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bhiduri, district officials, and army officers.
LG Manoj Sinha acknowledged that terrorism and its ecosystem had tarnished J&K’s reputation, emphasizing that achieving peace was not solely the responsibility of security forces but required the collective effort of locals and elected representatives.
He urged everyone to contribute to the promotion of tourism, expressing his aspiration to establish J&K as a global tourism destination. He commended the success of the Bungus festival, noting the positive changes that have occurred in the region in recent years.
Manoj Sinha thanked visitors from around the world and within the country, recognizing their role in promoting tourism in J&K. He revealed that 1.58 crore tourists had visited the region this year, symbolizing a new beginning.
The LG highlighted the administration’s dedication to promoting and exploring tourist destinations, specifically mentioning Bungus as an ideal location for trekking and stream enthusiasts. He praised tourists for becoming brand ambassadors of the region, encouraging others to visit.
Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, Manoj Sinha emphasized that promotional efforts continued through road shows and other means. He stressed the significance of the private sector in infrastructure development.
The administration’s goal is to elevate J&K as a premier tourism destination, focusing on offbeat locations. The LG underlined the economic benefits brought about by growing homestays for locals.
He also credited the G20 meeting held in Srinagar for boosting tourism, resulting in a 350 percent increase in tourist footfall compared to the previous year. Anticipating a record-breaking 2.25 crore tourist arrivals this year, Manoj Sinha expressed confidence in J&K’s tourism potential.(KNB)
