Srinagar 02 October (KNB): Lieutenant Governor J&K Manoj Sinha on Saturday launched a mega cleanliness and De-weeding drive of Dal Lake and said that it is collective responsibility of both people and government to conserve the water bodies.
On the launching of the mega cleanliness drive, a number of students, social activists and others were also present and were administered a Swachhta Pledge by LG Sinha.
During the launching of cleanliness and de-weeding drive, LG said that it is true that the attempts have been made, but the level to which the Dal Lake should have been cleaned has not been achieved.
Regarding the de-weeding process started in Dal Lake, LG said the machines for de-weeding are already in place and some have been hired by the administration for the expediting of work on it.
“Today we have taken the pledge of Swachhta and for 15 days the cleanliness drive should continue throughout the UT,” said LG. He said that the aim of cleanliness can be achieved only when the people will cooperate and take part in it.
“It is my request that Dal Lake belongs to all people and if it remains clean then there will be profits from it for us,” said LG.
However, LG emphasized that Srinagar residents should take part in the cleanliness drive in order to achieve the aim behind it.
