Srinagar, March 30(KNB): Residents of Awor Manoner of district Kupwara alleged that they have been getting extreamly filthy water containing lumps of faecal matter in their taps from last three hours leaving people high and dry.
Locals of Awor village have shared photos and videos with Kashmir News Bureau (KNB) of the dirty water in which pollutants as faecal matter could be seen with naked eyes and alleged that contaminated water supply has not only become a huge concern for the local residents but has increased the danger of multiple water born diseases at this time of alarming hour when the whole world is in trauma of COVID-19.
Nazir Ahmad Lone , one of the resident talking with KNB over phone said, “Amid threat of deadly caronavirus, we have been getting contaminated water of yellow colour smelling like sewer and containing a lot of faecal matter from last few hours posing a huge health threat,the water is used for drinking, cooking and other proposes while as of now we have stopped using the water and are worried of threat of increasing health crisis.”
Another resident said,”From last three hours we are getting highly contaminated water mixed with sewage and other dirt particles taking our lives at high risk, we are facing a lot of problems due to the carelessness of PHE department there is threat of epidemics if PHE does not look into it, they should take immediate steps to restore the supply of pure water.”
While DC Kupwara could not be contacted despite repeated attempts for his comment.(KNB)
