KNTJA concerned over slapping of FIR against journalist Salim Pandit

Self regulation by journalist fraternity should be encouraged in such a situation.

In a meeting held in Srinagar the members of Kashmir National TV journalists association (KNTJA) deliberated on the controversy triggered after a recent news report in Times of India. Without endorsing the story the members were of the view that slapping of an FIR on a senior journalist in such a manner was unwarranted and amounts to attack on the freedom of press in Kashmir.

In case of any compliant against the reporter a mechanism of self regulation within the journalist fraternity should be encouraged. The authorities could also take up such a matter or story with the bodies like Press council of India for a probe in accordance with guildliens laid down for press.

All the journalists in Kashmir are working under tremendous pressure in conflict atmosphere and are still maintaining the highest credibility of impartial reporting of facts. The Govt & Police attack on the freedom of press can’t be supported.
