KNB Journalist Harassed While Covering Illegal Reconstruction at Jagti, Jammu

Jammu 22 Dec(KNB): A journalist of Kashmir News Bureau (KNB) was allegedly harassed while covering a news story related to illegal reconstruction at Jagti area of Jammu.

According to details, KNB journalist Surkhab Zehra was on professional duty at the site when a group of people, reportedly linked to the ownership of the structure, approached her and attempted to stop her from reporting. She was allegedly told that she could not carry out reporting at the spot.

Surkhab Zehra stated that during the incident, a woman arrived at the location in a car and verbally abused and harassed her. Despite the provocation, she said she maintained journalistic ethics and restraint. However, the situation escalated, following which Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu intervened and immediately dispatched a police team to the spot, ensuring her safety and rescue.

Condemning the incident, Surkhab Zehra said that harassing a journalist merely for performing professional duties is completely unacceptable and against democratic norms.

It is pertinent to mention here that earlier Kashmir News Bureau had reported about illegal reconstruction activity at Jagti, Jammu. Following the report, officials of the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) reached the spot and stopped the work. However, sources said that construction activity was again resumed during night hours the very next day.(KNB)
