Srinagar 21 May (KNB): Several constructions were demolished on Friday in several areas of the city by a special team of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), including those brought to notice by Kashmir News Bureau a day ago.
With intentions to expose illegal and unauthorised constructions being attempted in the garb of Corona Curfew, Kashmir News Bureau disseminated information on 20th of May, about several structures being or already established in different areas of Srinagar district.
SMC on 21st of May, launched into action with the special drive constituted by the Commissioner SMC Athar Amir and led by Joint Commissioner Planning Ghulam Hassan; inspected the Ward 22 (Karan Nagar) as well as Gund Hasi Bhat, Zakura, Baghi Mehtab and Maloora area of the City.
Earlier during the day, the team conducted several demolitions in Maloora Gund, Hasi Bhat, Zakura and at Baghi Mehtab, one structure was sealed.
Afterwards, The special team including the Commissioner SMC took to the field and inspected several areas in Karan Nagar to look into the constructions in different areas of the Ward 22.
The team on identifying the deviations in approved building plans, illegal and unauthorised constructions at certain places initiated action including sealing & demolition in accordance with the Municipal Corporation Act.
The designated team also checked building permissions at constructional sites and directed people not to make deviations in the approved building permissions.
The task force comprising of Chief Enforcement Officer, Chief Anti Encroachment Officer, Estates Officer, Antipolythene Officer, Zonal Officers were already directed to recommend action in cases where convenience or involvement of officials is found.
While supervising the drive, Commissioner SMC Athar Amir personally called for on spot sealing of one structure near Petrol pump in Karan Nagar after finding the gross violation in the court orders on the said structure.
The constructional material, machinery including mixer at site was seized on spot as well.
Pertinent to mention that as per the officials of the SMC the drive will continue and will be taken up in all the wards of the city as per their scheduled time. (KNB)
