Srinagar, July 3(KNB): A severe heatwave has gripped Kashmir, with temperatures soaring to record highs across the region. On Tuesday, Srinagar recorded a scorching 34.6 degrees Celsius, surpassing Kolkata’s maximum temperature of 31 degrees Celsius. This marks the second highest temperature recorded in July in the last decade, with the highest being 35 degrees Celsius on July 18, 2021.
Other areas in the valley also experienced extreme heat, with Kupwara recording 34.6 degrees Celsius and Qazigund reaching 34 degrees Celsius. The heatwave has led to water shortages, prompting the health department to issue advisories and the school education department to announce a 10-day summer vacation starting July 8.
The meteorological department predicts continued hot and humid weather on Wednesday, with some respite expected on Thursday and intermittent rainfall from July 5-6. However, the heat is likely to return from July 8-10.
The heatwave has forced people to stay indoors, leading to increased sales of cooling gadgets and car AC servicing.(KNB)
