Kashmir Observes Shutdown on JRL Call

Srinagar 17 September (KNB): A shutdown called by separatists affected life across the Kashmir Valley on Monday. The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), headed by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, called for the shutdown against the killing five militants in gunfight and civilian in clashes in Chowgam Village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.


According to reports reached to Kashmir News Bureau, All Shops, public transport, other businesses and educational institutions remained shut at most places while attendance in banks, post offices and government offices was thin due to non-availability of public transport.

However, Private transport were seen moving in some parts of Kashmir. Rail services have been suspended as a precaution.

A 24 year old civilian was killed and 20 others injured in clashes near the encounter site with the security forces. (KNB)
