Srinagar, May 01 (KNB): The people of Kashmir on Tuesday observed a complete shutdown against the killing of two militants and a civilian in Drubgam, Pulwama, south of Kashmir on Monday during an encounter between militants and government forces. The call of shutdown was given by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), as a precautionary measure to thwart any law and order problem government imposes restrictions in parts of Srinagar City.
Life in Kashmir was crippled on Tuesday as shops and business establishments were closed and traffic was off the roads in valley due to a day-long strike called by JRL against the killing of civilian in security force firing. Reports of imposing restriction were also received from several places of South Kashmir.
Train service was suspended on Tuesday for“security reasons” in Kashmir in view of a shutdown call given by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) after the government forces killed a student in Pulwama yesterday. “We have suspended all train runs in the Kashmir valley today”, a senior railway official said.
Meanwhile, thousands of people on Tuesday participated in the funeral of slain Hizb commander Sameer Tiger and his associate in Drubgam and Rajpora villages of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district respectively.
An eyewitness said that few militants appeared in the funeral of ‘Tiger’ and fired several shots in the air to offer gun-salute to their fallen associate. (KNB)
