Srinagar, July13(KNB): Normal life in all over the Kashmir valley crippled on Saturday in view of Martyrs day, as separatists called for a shutdown to mark the day.
Shops and all other bussiness establishments were closed in commercial hub of Lal chowk and other parts of Srinagar.
Public transport is off the roads while only thin movement of private vehicles was witnessed.
July 13 is observed as Martyrs Day in Jammu and Kashmir to remember those killed in the firing outside the Srinagar Central Jail by forces of the Dogra Maharaja in 1931.
The state government observes the day to honour those who fought for Independence in 1947. It is a public holiday in the state.
Joint resistance leadership comprising of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq have called for shutdown to mark the day.
Moreover, heavy deployments of security forces have been made in sensitive areas of the valley to maintain law and order.(KNB)
