Srinagar 12 April(KNB): In a remarkable display of skill and determination, two talented Judokas from the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council Judo Academy, Rakhshinda Mehak and Vishal Khajuria, have been selected to represent India at the prestigious World Deaf Judo Championship for the second time. The duo is part of a six-member team poised to compete in the global arena at the championship being held in Turkestan, Kazakhstan, from April 11th to 15th, 2024.
Mehak and Khajuria have honed their judo skills at the MA Stadium Judo Centre under the expert guidance of Suraj Bhan Singh, the Chief Judo Coach. Their rigorous training and dedication have paid off, earning them a spot on the international stage where they will showcase their prowess alongside four other Indian Judokas—two women from Maharashtra, one woman from Haryana, and one man from Uttar Pradesh.
The team’s departure for Kazakhstan on the evening of April 10th, 2024, marks a significant moment for Indian sports. The Deaf Sports Council of India, in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India, has extended its full support, ensuring that the athletes are well-prepared and equipped for the challenges ahead.
This is not the first time Indian Judokas have made their mark in the world of deaf sports. Rakhshinda Mehak previously clinched a Bronze medal at the 1st World Deaf Judo Championship held in Paris, France, in 2021.(KNB)
