Srinagar 06 November (KNB): J&K Medical Employees Federation (JKMEF) on Saturday said that new recruitment is not justifiable at the cost of disengaging contractual medical employees, working in the department from the last 12 years.
Around 1,200 contractual employees, working in the health department, are said to be disengaged after their already 12 years of service and on the decision aggrieved workers have expressed their disapproval of late.
Regarding the matter, President JKMEF Rafiq Ahmad Rather while briefing media persons in Srinagar said that around 12 years ago some contractual workers were placed in the health department. “After 12 years they are being told that they will be replaced by new recruits. But where will the workers go, who are already working on different posts for so long?” Rather questioned.
He said that there has already been a number of directions from the High Court pertaining to regularizing the medical employees. “But the tragedy is that the directions of the High Court, to regularize the workers, are also not being implemented,” rued Rather.
He further said that if new ones are being recruited, that should not happen at the cost of the workers already working for the last 12 years in the department.
Meanwhile, the federation has deferred the strike call, which, as per them, was to be observed on 8th November. “We want to give government one more opportunity to listen our points, address the employees’ matters and to think about their future,” said Shabir Ahmad Langoo, who was part of JKMEF while addressing media persons and stressed on regularizing the medical workers whether they are working in Jammu or Kashmir.
The J&K Medical Employees Federation also appealed to LG Manoj Sinha to look into the matters of the workers and said, “We urge LG to look into the matters of the poor medical workers and listen to their miseries.” they added. (KNB)
