Srinagar, Jan 25 (KNB): In a circular issued by Director General of Police S P Vaid, the Jammu and Kashmir police personals have been directed not to use cell phones during sensitive or alert duties and the course of training as well.
The order reads which also lies with Kashmir News Bureau, reads “ever since the mobile phones were introduced the police officials have taken advantage of the fast communication in carrying out their official tasks. However the disturbing trend is that police personals deployed on guard duties or point duties are every time often seen talking on the cell phones oblivious to the task and responsibility they are entrusted with”.
This results not only in disruption of police duty but can also be a great security risk as the traffic police or sentinel would barely notice looming threat when his body and mind are concentrated somewhere else, further reads the order.
A police official wishing anonymity said that “the order is perfectly going fine with the department as police personals in Kashmir who are mainly charged with the duty of law and order situations mainly either cannot do them or those duties get disrupted because of them always being on cell phones. And most of the personals sometimes ignore their duties.
“Not only are the cops on duty but the trainees also restricted to use of cell phones. It also been noticed that police recruits under training are always carrying and using the cell phones without any restrictions”, reads the circular.
Carrying cell phones or using them during duty hours or while on training besides causing disruption in the work also the norms and discipline is violated. The unhealthy practice of using cell phones during working hours has a negative impact on the overall working environment and image of the department.
Another police official welcoming the order said that “some of the cops would not take their duties seriously and would be seen lost in their phones instead of doing what was their duty. They sometimes would even ignore the law and order things and would share with people they ought not to.” (KNB)
