Srinagar 20 September (KNB): Jammu and Kashmir Helpers to Supervisors Association from ICDS department on Monday staged a protest in the vicinity of Civil Secretariat, Srinagar, demanding the revocation of an order regarding their termination from the department.
Scores of women workers from the ICDS department raised slogans against the authorities for disengaging them from the department and threatened to take an extreme step if not reinstated in the department.
During the protest, one lady introducing herself as General Secretary of JK Helpers to Supervisors said that they were protesting for three years against withholding of their payments and were assured of resolving things by the Director of the department. “But what happened later is that we were terminated from the department which has blown out the hearths of 918 workers,” said the General Secretary.
She said that they would come out on the roads and would take an extreme step if the matter remains unresolved. “The government would be solely responsible for our lives and would not deter no matter what we might have to face,” she added.
They further said that there are vacancies related to the helpers and workers and alleged of others being retained in the vacant positions. “Why not promote the helpers and supervisors, and at present the posts are vacant for both the helpers and supervisors,” suggested the General Secretary.
She said that the order of their termination should be revoked or otherwise they would take their own lives. (KNB)
