December 16(KNB): In an electrifying inaugural match of the All India Civil Services Tournament (Men) in New Delhi, the Jammu & Kashmir team triumphed over Goa in a stunning display of skill and strategy. Winning the toss, Goa chose to bowl first amidst foggy conditions, hoping to stifle the J&K team’s batting prowess.
However, despite a shaky start that saw J&K at 30 for 3 in 6 overs, the resilient partnership between Samiullah Beigh, former Ranji trophy captain of J&K, and Akhil Salathia stabilized the team’s innings with a commendable 55-run collaboration until Salathia’s departure. Beigh emerged as the standout player, showcasing his dominance with four towering sixes on his way to a spirited 49 off 36 balls.
Under the leadership of Shri. Shaleen Kabra (IAS), the J&K cricket team posted a formidable total of 158 runs in 20 overs. Beigh’s 49 (36), along with impactful contributions from Sami (39 off 23), Akhil Slathia (26 off 23), and Naseer Rather (24 off 16), solidified their team’s position.
What followed was an exceptional display of bowling and fielding by the J&K Civil Services team. Abhinav Khajuria and Kapil stood out, claiming three wickets each, while Shaleen Kabra secured two and Sami Ullah clinched one. This collective effort left the Goa Civil Services team floundering, collapsing at 76 in 15.3 overs, suffering a massive defeat.
Abhinav Khajuria’s outstanding bowling performance earned him the prestigious Man of the Match award. With this resounding victory, the J&K team sets its sights on their next match scheduled for December 18, 2023, filled with confidence and determination.(KNB)
