Srinagar 16 August(KNB): The Election Commission has announced that the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly election, pending since 2014, will be held on September 18, September 25, and October 1. The results will be announced on October 4. This move is in line with a Supreme Court order to restore democracy in the region by September 30. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed that statehood will be restored soon.
In preparation for the election, the Election Commission will publish the final voter list by August 20, right after the Amarnath Yatra concludes. Approximately 87 lakh voters are expected to participate. Election Commission chief Rajiv Kumar emphasized the people’s desire for change and their enthusiasm to shape a new future through this electoral process.
During the Lok Sabha election, long queues were witnessed at polling booths in Jammu and Ladakh, reflecting the eagerness for early elections in the region.(KNB)
