Srinagar, December 21(KNB): Jammu and Kashmir known for its values all over the globe where truth, honesty and dedication are the ethics of the state. There was a time when everyone irrespective of his position in the society, believed in truth and goodness, people used to come forward for the protection and help of the weak and needy and never exploited their sufferings for their personal gains, but with the passage of time corruption has replaced the moral ethics by greed and selfishness. The never ending greed and selfishness has brought J&K as most corrupt among 20 surveyed states.
As per CMS India Corruption Study, following states emerged as most corrupt with Karnataka having corruption as (77%), followed by Andhra Pradesh (74%), Tamil Nadu (68%), Maharashtra (57%), J&K (44%) and Punjab (42%).
Moreover, in 2005, the most corrupt states were Bihar (74%), J&K (69%), Odisha (60%), Rajasthan (59%) and Tamil Nadu (59%).”
Talking about corruption in Kashmir, Governor Satya Pal Malik recently said that not all Kashmiris are corrupt, there are two types of people poor and rich and this disparity could be ended only after corruption is uprooted from this land.
“Corruption is the biggest challenge in the society which needs to be terminated completely, it is emerging in every department whether it is a Rural Development, Revenue, Police, Social Welfare, Health or Medical Education, Power Development, Forest, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution as well as Education,” said Mustafa,a university student.
In a recent report on the functioning of various departments of the Government, the State Vigilance Commission (SVC) has identified ten departments and categorized them as the most corrupt departments due to which the common people are suffering a lot.
While talking to Kashmir News Bureau, Arslan Dar, resident of Sopore said, “Corruption in J&K has undermined the trust of the Kashmiris in democracy and now poses a direct challenge to peace operations within the State. The case should be investigated on high priority.”
The question that arises in every mind is that “why Jammu and Kashmir is among most corrupted states, the chain of corruption needs an end and government should give examplory punishment to a person indulged in corruption. (KNB)
