Jammu-Srinagar national highway closed for traffic

Srinagar, Feb 02 (KNB): The 300km long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for vehicular traffic on Thursday late night following the heavy rains which triggered a landslide in different places. The men and machines of Border Roads Organisation have been pressed into the service to clear the debris of the landslides.

Several landslides occurred at many places, blocking the arterial road, the only all-weather link between Kashmir and rest of the country, a traffic department official said, adding, heavy rains lashed major parts of the highway but the movement of traffic remained unaffected during most of the day.

Meanwhile the Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police has appealed people to undertake journey on the NHW only after confirming status of the road from TCU Srinagar (01942450022, 2485396), TCU Ramban (9419993745) and TCU Jammu (01912459048, 9419147732) and PCR Jammu (0191-2544581, 2542000, 2542001, 2560401, 1090).
