Srinagar, 31 January (KNB): The Jammu Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) expressed gratitude towards the administration led by the Lieutenant Governor for approving an increase in the monthly remuneration for Gram Rozgar Sevaks (GRSs) associated with the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
In a statement issued to news agency Kashmir News Bureau-KNB, Umar Jaan Senior Party Leader and Provisional Secretary of JKAP, conveyed appreciation for the increased remuneration, stating “GRSs are the backbone of MGNREGA, tirelessly working on the ground to ensure its benefits reach every eligible household. The enhanced remuneration is a welcome step towards recognizing their dedication and contribution to rural development.”
However, Jaan emphasized that the GRS community’s primary concern lies in job security. “Their current non-permanent status creates uncertainty and hinders their ability to plan for the future. We urge the LG administration to consider framing a comprehensive job policy that grants these dedicated individuals permanent positions within the government sector.” He said
Highlighting the challenges faced by GRSs due to insufficient salaries, Jaan added, “Their current remuneration often falls short of meeting their basic needs. While the recent increase brings some relief, a permanent job with improved benefits would provide them with the financial stability and peace of mind they deserve.”
The JKAP reiterated its commitment to advocating for the welfare of GRSs. “We believe their contribution to rural development merits due recognition and support. We urge the LG administration to swiftly implement a job policy that secures their future and ensures their continued dedication to serving rural communities.” He added-KNB
