Urges LG, Police to Release Kashmiri Youth Detained During Iran-Related Mourning, Protests

Srinagar, Mar 14(KNB): Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said that Islam reached Kashmir through Iran, highlighting the deep historical and spiritual ties between the Valley and the Iranian people while expressing solidarity with them amid the ongoing crisis.

Chairing a meeting of senior leaders of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party in Srinagar, the former Chief Minister said that Kashmiris share a long-standing cultural and religious connection with Iran.

“Islam came to Kashmir via Iran,” Mufti said, adding that the people of Kashmir stand in solidarity with the Iranian people and that their prayers and sentiments are with them during these difficult times.

During the meeting, the party passed a resolution expressing strong solidarity with the people of Iran in view of the prevailing crisis.

Mufti also hailed the people of Kashmir for showing compassion and support for Iran and urged them to offer special prayers for peace, safety, and relief for the Iranian people, especially during the last days of the holy month of Ramadan.

She appealed to Muslim countries to come forward and extend support to Iran in the current situation.

The PDP president further urged the Government of India to stand with Iran, stating that Tehran has historically been a consistent friend of India during difficult times.

Mufti also appealed to the Lieutenant Governor and the Director General of Police to release Kashmiri youth who were detained during mourning gatherings and protests held in connection with the Iran crisis.(KNB)
