Srinagar, 27 Aug(KNB)- In a remarkable demonstration of commitment to youth empowerment and fostering strong connections with citizens, the Indian Army orchestrated the Kashmir Women Cricket League, a riveting T20 cricket tournament held from 19 to 27 August 2023.
In a statement issue to news agency Kashmir News Bureau, Army spokesperson said that this significant event not only bolstered sportsmanship among the participating girls but also deepened the connection between soldiers and citizens.
The tournament unfolded exclusively in the scenic Valley, attracting a total of 12 teams from diverse regions. Over the course of the event, these teams engaged in league cum knockout matches from 19 to 25 August, culminating in an intense face-off between two prominent contenders, Anantnag Rebels and Budgam Strikers, in the finals. The championship match was a nerve-wracking affair, with Anantnag Rebels eventually prevailing against their determined opponents, he said.
The honor of Chief Guest for the grand finale was Shri Manoj Sinha, the Lt. Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. The presence of Guest of Honour, Ms. Mithali Raj, added a touch of celebrity to the proceedings. As the thrilling match unfolded, Anantnag Rebels secured victory and were bestowed with the championship trophy, along with attractive cash prizes, courtesy of the Chief Guest. Shri Manoj Sinha commended the “Nari Shakti” (Women Power) displayed throughout the tournament, extending his heartfelt wishes for their bright future. He also encouraged them to draw inspiration from the challenges and accomplishments of cricket luminary Ms. Mithali Raj, statement added.
The grand culmination of the event drew a massive crowd of enthusiastic spectators from various walks of life, most notably the youth. The tournament’s overarching impact resonated deeply with citizens, providing a vital platform for the valley’s young girls to exhibit their innate talent and passion for cricket.
