Indian Army Honors 1947 Heroes in Kashmir


Baramulla 27 Oct(KNB):—The valor and sacrifice of the Sikh Regiment soldiers who laid down their lives defending the nation on October 27, 1947, were solemnly honored today by the Indian Army.

Marking the anniversary of their bravery, a dedicated remembrance program was organized in Baramulla, Kashmir, to pay tribute not only to these brave troopers but also to the memory of Shaheed Mohd Maqbool Sherwani, who sacrificed his life for the divinity and integrity of Kashmir.
Honoring the Fallen

The poignant event saw senior military officials and soldiers gather to commemorate the pivotal 1947 actions. The ceremony was presided over by Lt Gen PS Ponia, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 19th Division. He was joined by the Deputy GOC, the 79th Commander, the 19th Artillery Commander, the Commanding Officer (CO) of the 19th Infantry Division Signal Regiment (IDSR), and the CO of the 46th Rashtriya Rifles (RR).
The solemn proceedings included a Guard of Honour presented by serving soldiers, a fitting tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The small but significant gathering of approximately 40 to 50 individuals, comprising military personnel and officers, ensured the ceremony maintained a respectful and focused atmosphere.
