Delhi 08 Sep(KNB): The Indian Army proudly celebrated the 100th birthday of Lance Naik Charan Singh (Retired) today, marking a century of extraordinary life and service.
Born on September 7, 1924, Charan Singh’s journey with the Army began on August 26, 1942, at Firozepur Cantt, when he got enrolled in the Indian Army.
Charan Singh’s distinguished military career saw him serve with the Army Service Corps during World War II. His service took him from Singapore to Lahore and eventually to Yol Cantt in Himachal Pradesh. Over the years, his dedication was recognised with the prestigious Burma Star Award and the Indian Independence Medal. After 17 years of valiant service, he retired from the Indian Army on May 17, 1959.
Now residing in Dekwala village, Ropar district, Himachal Pradesh, Charan Singh lives surrounded by his four sons and two daughters. A Brigadier lead team joined his family in the celebrations. Indian Army is known for rich traditions and their commitment to honouring its veterans and acknowledging their contributions to the nation.
As we celebrate this milestone, it is a poignant reminder that soldiers never truly retire – they remain forever a part of the extended Indian Army family, and a responsible member of Indian society.
The Indian Army units have the tradition of maintaining a lifelong bond with the veterans, often engaging with them through various welfare programs, reunions, and community activities.
