Chennai, August 20(KNB): The Indian Army today bid a solemn and heartfelt farewell to General Sundararajan Padmanabhan, the former Chief of Army Staff, who passed away on August 18 in Chennai. General Padmanabhan, affectionately known as “Paddy,” served the nation with distinction for over 43 years, culminating his illustrious career as the Chief of Army Staff from 2000 to 2002.
The last rites of General Padmanabhan were conducted with full military honors at the Besant Nagar Electric Crematorium in Chennai. Senior serving officers, including Lieutenant General Tarun Kumar Aich, Lieutenant General Adosh Kumar, and Lieutenant General Karanbir Singh Brar, paid tribute and laid wreaths in a mark of deep respect and reverence.
Numerous veterans who served alongside General Padmanabhan also gathered to pay their last respects, reflecting on his exceptional leadership, commitment, and the indelible legacy he leaves behind in the Indian Army. The Indian Army extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and joins them in mourning the loss of a true soldier and leader.
General Padmanabhan is survived by his wife, a daughter, and a son. He was 83 years old. His passing marks the end of an era, and his contributions to the Indian Army will be remembered forever.(KNB)
