Harsh treatment meted out to JK Students at Haryana raises political temperatures

Srinagar 03 Feb 2018 (KNB): Harsh treatment meted out to the Students of J&K outside State is back in news as the two  students Aftab Ahmad and Amjad Ali, belonging to Rajouri district, were beaten up in Mahendargarh town of the north Indian state as they were returning to their university after offering Friday prayers.Both the students are pursuing MSC Geography from Central University of Haryana and are in their final year.

Director General of Haryana Police BS Sandhu said that three persons involved in the act have been arrested.

In an forceful manner raising the issue   of these  two students beaten in Haryana, the opposition parties on Saturday alleged that the government had failed to protect the students from Jammu and Kashmir studying outside the state.

Pertinently, the proceedings of the House began, the National Conference and Congress legislators stood up from their seats and raised the issue of assault on two students in Mahendragarh town of Haryana yesterday.Senior leader , NC legislator from Khanyar Ali Mohammad Sagar termed as “unfortunate” the thrashing of two students by goons while they were returning to the Haryana Central University after offering Friday prayers.

He observed that  the government had “failed” to ensure safety of students studying outside the state.He said such incidents will further alienate “our students” from the rest of India. On the otherhand, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti expressed shock at the incident as she sought strong action from the Haryana government on Friday. In reply to her tweet, Mufti was assured by Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar that the guilty will not go unpunished.

 

Kashmiri students’ harassment in Haryana is a well known fact. It is worth mentioning that some 18 months back Six students hailing from Kashmir Valley were allegedly beaten up by some fellow students in a private college in Haryana’s Jhajjar district after an altercation between the two sides.

Peerzada Firdous Ahmed, Social Activist from Kupwara while talking to KNB  states – “ The beating of kashmiri students outside the state is nothing new as hooligans roughing up the students from Kashmir, Chenab and Pirpanjal valley’s in different places of India has been going on since ages with these negative elements enjoying impunity  .The saner section of Indian civil society should wake up from the slumber and protest this inhuman treatment of the Kashmiri students. State Government often gives kneejerk reactions and does not have concrete policy or vision to stop this .”(KNB)
