Budgam 27 April (KNB): The residents of Hamza Colony, Kanihama, district Budgam are facing immense hardships due to water-logging. Locals allege that the situation worsens after every rainfall and many residential houses have been damaged so far. Adding to the miseries of people, administration is playing mute spectator.
Underdeveloped drainage system and unaddressed irrigation canals defects to the water-logging in the area. With all roads, orchards and public places submerged more than two feet, the colony looks like a waterbody, hindering commuters and every day life.
With a dozen of drowning incidents of minors and much damage to public properties, residents of the colony are suffering hazards.
The locals alleged that the administration has been disregarding this issue from four years leading to adverse effects on the public.
Talking to news agency Kashmir News Bureau, the residents said that there is no change in the response of administration after the abrogation of Article-370 and the UT administration has failed to fulfill their promises, made under Back to Village and other programs, about making lives better in the region.
“Have mercy on our conditions, our sick people face life threats, our cries and miseries are neglected by district administration, Gram Sabha and even the Tehsildar, who visited for three days under back to village program promised many things aswell as estimations of projects were done many times but no development has taken place on ground” a resident said.
Another local told KNB that the conditions in the locality are pathetic as even the Covid-19 cases are rising in the valley and there is no hope for the people of the locality to get vaccinated under the current circumstances.
He said, “this time we need to get vaccinated but the question is, how to reach the medical facilities amid such conditions? From past four years, I have submitted many applications at Block Office and DC office but they play deaf and dumb”
The locals have been appealing the district administration to look into the matter and marked their protest from time to time, but their appeals go unheard and miseries unseen.
The older people and children are worse affected in the situation and lives here still remain endangered.
Kashmir News Bureau made several attempts to reach DC Budgam and DDC Chairman N A Khan regarding this issue but didn’t get any response. (KNB)
