Gunfight rages in Srinagar outskirts after attack on BJP activist, clashes reported

Srinagar, Mar 15 (KNB): Gunfight rages in Khunmoh area of outskirts summer capital Srinagar between government forces and suspected militants who earlier attacked policemen guarding a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activist.

Earlier, militants fired upon the PSOs of BJP based political activist Dr Anwar Khan while the latter was visiting Arsh institute at Khonmoh area in the outskirts of Srinagar city. The Security forces soon after the attack has cordoned off the whole area and started search operation during which 2-3 militants are trapped.

Reports reaching KNB, the PSOs of the protected person repulsed the attack while exhibiting extreme caution to avoid any collateral damage leading the militants to flee from the spot. In the said incident one PSO namely Bilal Ahmad has sustained minor injuries.

Meanwhile, youth took to streets and pelted the forces with stones to disrupt the anti-militant operation. A policeman is reportedly injured. The exchange of fire between militants and forces was going on when last reports came in. (KNB)
