Srinagar, June 6, (KNB):The Grand Mufti of J&K, Mufti Nasir Ul Islam has urged the UT administration to take immediate and stringent action against a non-local medical student who allegedly made blasphemous remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in a social media post.
In a strong statement, Mufti Nasir Ul Islam said that mere suspension of the student is not enough.
“It has become a habit of some students in different institutions of Srinagar to post disrespectful content about Prophet (PBUH)The recent offense from a student in GMC Srinagar is a fresh example.” Grand Mufti said
“Such type of offenses cannot be tolerated in any civilized society,” Mufti Nasir stated. “These acts are meant to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of Jammu and Kashmir. Every civilized person gives due respect to the religious figures of other religions, and we expect people of other religions to be equally civilized.”
Grand Mufti urging the public to refrain from allowing miscreants to exploit the situation to disrupt the region’s peace.
Grand Mufti also stressed the importance of not spreading rumors or false information, a sentiment echoed by the Muslim Personal Law (MPL) Board. The MPL Board condemned the defamatory and derogatory act and appealed to the public to maintain harmony.
Meanwhile, the student enrolled at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar has been suspended. Police have taken cognizance of the incident, and an FIR has been registered under multiple IPC sections.-KNB
