Srinagar,April 12(KNB): ‘Ladli beti’ a Jammu and Kashmir government sponsored social assistance scheme meant for the new born girl child and arrest the declining female sex ratio yet to be implemented in Baramulla , Bandipora and Kupwara districts depriving the vast population of the benefits of the scheme.
A group of people from Baramulla , Kupwara , and Bandipora alleged the step-motherly approach of government with the North Kashmir districts to implement the ‘Ladli Beti’ scheme in the north Kashmir.
The scheme intends to ensure that the girl child doesnot become the burden for the parents and guardian is meant for the girls child born to the parents having annual income from all sources less than 75000 and born on or after 01/04/2015 whose applications are complete in all respects accompanied with the sanction letter from child development officer (CDPO).
A monthly contribution of rupees thousand per month is made by the J&K government from the birth of the girl child or account opening for next 14 years approximately a amount of about 168000/- and after maturity of the first phase the account graduates to 2nd phase a cumulate term deposit for next seven years and the maturity benefits are paid to the beneficiary on completion of 21 years.
Taking to Kashmir news Bureau Imtiyaz Ahmad khan from Baramulla , Rafiabad said “ if every district has the ‘LADLI BETI’ Scheme why isn’t the scheme implemented in the Baramulla district, we appeal the state government to implement the scheme in Baramulla district also.
“I am a poor person and have four daughters and when I went to child development project office ( CDPO) they told me that the scheme was not applicable for the residents of the Kupwara district”, Younus Ahmad Najar a resident of Kupwara said
“He further said if the scheme is really meant for people, why are we deprived of the social assistance scheme.”
When Kashmir News Bureau contacted the Director integrated child development service (ICDS) Shubnam Kamili she said “ it is a demand driven scheme implemented in some districts of state, we will present their demand with the government to extend its jurisdiction in J&K, when government will approve we will implement the scheme in those areas also (KNB).
