GMC Doda becomes pioneer in advanced Minimal Access surgery in J&K

DODA, DECEMBER 11(KNB): Department of General and Minimal Access Surgery GMC Doda has achieved another milestone by becoming the first Tertiary care hospital in the Union  Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to perform the advanced Laproscopic Esophageal and Gastric surgeries.

A 50 year old female with longstanding hiatus hernia, a condition in which a part of stomach enters the chest giving rise to unresolving GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) was successfully operated and Laproscopic Nissin fundoplication was done by Dr Babar Rashid Zargar, who is also the Head of the department. The patient had a smooth recovery and was fit for discharge within 3 days of surgery.

 

Despite acute shortage of resident doctors, and theater staff, the department continues to march ahead by providing the best and the most advanced surgical care to patients  of not only the Chenab valley but also from across the Jammu region.

Dr Babar Rashid Zargar expressed his gratitude towards Professor Noor Ali, Principal GMC doda for his able guidance and leadership and Prof. Tariq Azad, Founder Principal GMC Doda for his mentorship. He also thanked Dr Shruti, Head of the Anasthesia department, Dr Mehvish Incharge Blood bank, colleagues  from the department of General Surgery, the theatre technicians and staff, the junior resident doctors, ward and ICU staff  for their unwavering cooperation and support without which nothing could be possible.(KNB)
