Srinagar, Dec 01 (KNB): A young girl who attempted to take her own life by setting herself on fire at Pratap Park in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk on Saturday has succumbed to her injuries, officials confirmed on Monday.
According to officials that the girl had allegedly doused herself with an inflammable liquid before igniting it in a distressing act of self-harm.
The incident left bystanders in shock, many of whom rushed forward to rescue her. They managed to put out the flames using available resources before police and emergency services arrived at the scene.
Despite being shifted to SMHS Hospital with severe burn injuries, the girl passed away this morning, two days after the incident.
Her identity is being withheld for privacy reasons, officials said, adding that police have taken up the case and launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the tragic act.(KNB)
