Friday marks shutdown and restriction in Kashmir

Srinagar, April 06 (KNB): The people of Kashmir on Friday for the fifth day observed a shutdown against the killing of five civilians and thirteen militants at the hands of government forces on Sunday.

The call of shutdown has given by the Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA), a conglomerate of trade unions. Curfews like restrictions were imposed in Old City Srinagar and other parts of Valley in view of the protests called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL).

All the separatist leaders were either placed under house detention or lodged in several police stations.
Due to the strict restrictions in Old City Srinagar no Friday congregation prayers were allowed.

Condemning the restrictions and arrest Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq took to the twitter, he stated – “Once again curfew restrictions and arrests! People and leadership barred from offering Friday Prayers in mosques including #JamaMasjid Srinagar.81 year old and ailing AAC veteran Ghulam Mohd Zaki also not spared, arrested and jailed in a nocturnal raid at his house in Sopore!”

Meanwhile amid shutdown and restrictions reports of peaceful protests were received from many places including at Chattabal, Old City Srinagar and several parts of South Kashmir.
Station House Officer (SHO) Nigeen, Manzoor Ahmad on Friday has sustained injuries during the clashes between youth and forces. The injured cop is being treated in hospital, police said.
Pertinently, in view of the Valley wide student protests against the recent killings the authorities had ordered the suspension of class work in all schools and colleges in Srinagar on Friday. (KNB)
