Four Militants, Policeman and a civilian Killed in Anantnag gunfight

Anantnag 22 June (KNB): Four militants among head of the Islamic State Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK), were killed during a gunfight with government forces in Srigufwara village of South Kashmir Anantnag district on Friday.

According to reports reached by Kashmir News Bureau, policeman and a civilian were also killed in the exchange of fire between forces and militants

Earlier confirming the casualties, Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief SP Vaid tweeted that two militants killed in the encounter are reportedly affiliated to the Islamic State of Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK).

The four militants killed have been identified as ISJK chief Dawood Salafi alias Burhan from HMT Srinagar, Majeed Manzoor from Talangam village in Pulwama district, Adil Hassan Mir and Ashraf Itoo, both from Srigufwara in Anantnag.

According to police official, militants holed up in a house opened fire at police and army personnel during a search operation at Nowshera village – around 10 kilometres from Anantnag town on Friday morning.

Mohammad Yusuf Rather died owner of house where militants were holed up and his wife was taken to the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences in a critical condition, he said.

However, dozens of youth were injured in clashes that erupted near the encounter site.

Meanwhile, Internet services were suspended in Srinagar and Anantnag in view of the encounter.

This is the first encounter to occur between militants and security personnel ever since the state came under governor’s rule. (KNB)
