Srinagar, August 27(KNB): Gazanfar Ali, the former Commissioner of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), has announced his decision to contest the upcoming Assembly elections independently from the Lalchowk and Chadoora constituency.
Ali, who retired from service in 2022, had briefly joined the Congress party but later quit to pursue an independent political path. In an exclusive conversation with the Kashmir News Bureau, Ali confirmed his decision to contest the Assembly elections, citing his desire to serve the people of his constituency without being bound by party affiliations.
“I have decided to contest the Assembly elections independently from Lalchowk and Chadoora constituency,” Ali said. “I want to work for the betterment of my people without any political constraints.”
Ali’s decision to contest independently is seen as a significant development in the political landscape of Kashmir. His experience as a former SMC Commissioner and his knowledge of the local issues are expected to work in his favor.
The Lalchowk and Chadoora constituency is considered a key seat in the upcoming Assembly elections, and Ali’s independent candidacy is likely to impact the electoral dynamics in the areas.(KNB)
