Srinagar 20 August(KNB): Former Congress leader and Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) chief Ghulam Nabi Azad has been holding secret talks with the Congress high command, including Rahul Gandhi, over his potential return to the party, sources said.

Sources also reveal that Azad has shown interest in rejoining Congress, but wants a top position and a formal announcement from the central leadership.

Azad’s DPAP has denied reports of a merger with Congress, despite senior leader Taj Mohiuddin announcing his decision to join the party. However, sources claim that nearly 20 leaders from various parties, including Apni Party, People’s Conference, National Conference, and PDP, are in talks with Congress to join the party.

A five-member committee, led by J&K Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra, has been formed to hold talks with potential entrants. The move is seen as a strategic effort by Congress to strengthen its position ahead of the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.(KNB)
