Jammu 30 Dec(KNB): Jammu and Kashmir’s Police Chief, R R Swain, during a year-end press conference in Jammu, highlighted the concerning security situation prevailing in the Rajouri-Poonch region. Acknowledging the infiltration of foreign terrorists receiving support from within the territory, Swain emphasized the limited number of individuals aiding these infiltrators.
Swain outlined the challenges faced in combating these threats, noting how the foreign fighters strategically conceal themselves in various terrains like caves and forests, impeding information flow to security forces.
Regarding the counter-strategy, Swain refrained from divulging specifics, citing the sensitivity of the matter discussed at the highest levels. Assuring a resolute approach, he pledged an effective response to the situation.
The recent attack in Poonch district resulting in casualties among soldiers intensified the security landscape, prompting widespread concern. Additionally, civilian deaths allegedly during questioning by the army fueled public outrage, leading to visits by top officials including Army Chief General Manoj Pande and Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.
Responding to accusations by PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti of restricted access to the families of the deceased civilians, Swain defended the police’s role in ensuring visits aren’t exploited for malicious purposes.
Despite comparisons drawn to the situation between 1997 and 2003, Swain asserted a vigilant stance, acknowledging the disparities between past and present scenarios, affirming the commitment to bridge this gap.(KNB)
