Srinagar 31 August (KNB): For the first time in history, Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday organised a sports competition for special students in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.
Director Youth Services & Sports, Jammu and Kashmir, Gazanfar Ali along with Joint Director Bashir Ahmad, Balbir Singh, District Sports Officer Srinagar and other officials inaugurated the competition at Bemina Orphanage of the City.
On the occasion, Director Gazanfar Ali said that the department has been conducting sports competitions in Schools and other institutions but still there were certain institutions which usually get left out. “The department has taken up this initiative to reach out to such institutions and to begin the journey, we have started from J&K Orphanage,” he said.
The department has provided the children with sports kits and other equipment in order to uplift their morale and interest towards sports activities.
“These are brave kids. We have provided them sports kits and also directed the District Officer (Youth Services and Sports, Srinagar) to provide them all the necessary sports equipment as well,” said Gazanfar Ali.
To begin with, the sports competition at the Bemina Orphanage includes activities such as Volleyball, Chess, Kabadi and Carom.
Moreover, with Government aiming to enable people of J&K—who are not part of institutions—to explore their talent; Director YSS, J&K, said, “We have planned to cover all areas & enable the people from any age group—who are not part of Institutions or Schools—to explore their talent by providing them a platform and help them make it to the big stage.”
“We want people from any age group or gender to take part in their sport of preference and then accordingly tournaments will be conducted at Ward/Panchayat/Block/District/
Moreover, there are around 651 playgrounds under the Rural Development Department, where the games will be played, apart from the other convenient play fields in every districts/Panchayats of the regions.
Director YSS, J&K, requested people, especially the youth, who are not part of institutions/schools, to register themselves for the competition and become a part of the sporting world.
“The department is presently forming clubs and all those who are not affiliated with schools/institutions should join us. Sports kits, refreshments, etc. everything has been arranged for the participants and we have high hopes that the talented will emerge,” emphasized Gazanfar Ali. (KNB)
