Srinagar 10 December (KNB): Former Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement President has served a defamation notice to Abdul Rashid Shora (father of Shehla Rashid) seeking 10 Crore in damages for defaming and disrespecting him in general public for none of his faults.
Peerzada, in the legal notice sent through a law firm MA Peerzada & Associates, said that Abdul Rashid Shora, through a letter which was widely circulated in the electronic and print media, made false and baseless allegations against him.
It stated that in the letter Rashid alleged that Dr Shah Faisal founder of JKPM was in USA on education leave under the patronage of peerzada, He (Peerzada) has carried out mysterious financial dealings with your (Rashid’s) daughter Shehla Rashid, ex-general secretary of JKPM and also that Peerzada has links with Zahoor Watali and Engineer Rashid, ex MLA.
The notice stated that the contents of the Letter are false and malicious and the title and content of the Letter are grossly defamatory and falsely suggest that Peerzada is a shady person and is involved in criminal activities.
Through the notice, Peerzada denies the allegation that he has in any way directly or indirectly funded or supported Dr Shah Faesal’s education in USA.
He went on to fully deny that he had any financial dealings with Rashid’s daughter Shehla Rashid and further completely denied that he has any dealings of any kind with Zahoor Watali or Engineer Rashid.
The notice read, “The allegations levelled by you (Rashid) in Letter are figment of imagination and made maliciously to cause embarrassment, annoyance, and injury to the reputation and character of our client. By the aforesaid letter, our client (Peerzada) has suffered severe prejudice including loss of reputation and he reserves his right to initiate appropriate legal proceedings in respect of the same.”
It further stated, “Because of your (Rashid’s) scandalous, defamatory, libelous, and derogatory allegations, our client has suffered mental trauma, agony and huge loss including loss of reputation and goodwill, which our client quantifies to be Rs 10,00,00,000 (Ten Crore).”
It added that by the medium of this legal/ demand notice you are hereby called upon to publish an unconditional apology for making false, baseless, scandalous, defamatory, and derogatory allegations against Peerzada. Refraining from making any further false, baseless, scandalous, defamatory, and derogatory allegations against him and pay him Rs 10,00,00,000 (Ten Crore) as damages / compensation within a period of 7 days, failing which Peerzada shall be constrained to initiate appropriate legal proceedings as advised, including criminal proceedings against Rashid, entirely at your own risk, cost, and consequences.
