Farooq Abdullah Safe After Assassination Attempt; NC Leaders Plan Grand Welcome in Srinagar

Srinagar, March 12(KNB): Leaders of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) on Thursday held a meeting at the party headquarters in Srinagar after party president Farooq Abdullah remained safe following an alleged assassination attempt in Jammu.

During the meeting, several party MLAs passed a resolution strongly condemning the attack and raised serious questions over what they termed as a “major security lapse.” The leaders demanded a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Expressing relief over Abdullah’s safety, the leaders thanked Allah and said the party cadre across the Valley was grateful that the senior leader escaped unharmed.

Meanwhile, party leaders said preparations are underway to accord a grand welcome to Abdullah upon his arrival at Srinagar International Airport. From the airport, he will be escorted by party workers and supporters to his residence at Gupkar Road.

Several JKNC leaders said the large reception will be a show of solidarity with the party president and a message against political violence.

“We have thanked Allah for the safety of Dr Farooq Abdullah. The entire party leadership and workers are relieved. We will welcome him warmly when he arrives in Srinagar,” a party leader said after the meeting.

The leaders reiterated that the attack raises serious concerns about the security arrangements provided to senior political leaders and called for accountability from the authorities.(KNB)
